Bug Description

I use Australian repositories and in default Ubuntu installs downloading package lists stalls for minutes unless the following is done:

Create this file: /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/80http with the following contents:

Acquire::http::No-Cache true;
Acquire::http::Pipeline-Depth 0;

Once this is done then package downloads proceed immediately, this has been an issue for a while now and is still this in the 12.04 Alpha daily builds.

Doubtful, this has been an ongoing issue for a couple of years now - it seems to stall on looking for EN_AU "Translation" files from my local mirror repositories.

As I stated, as soon as I put in those changes things work at full speed.

Is this a mirror setup problem? What happens if you use a different mirror close by or archive.ubuntu.com directly?

It seems to be not just a mirror issue, when I select my location the installer uses the default Australian repository and it seems to happen with that.

I will have to test with another fresh install to confirm the mirror/main site behaviour.

Ok, fresh install of 12.04 Beta 1: - "Server for Australia" stalls on package list and installation of packages,

"Main server" archive.ubuntu.com goes straight through ok.
au.archive.ubuntu.com stalls.
nz.archive.ubuntu.com stalls.
us.archive.ubuntu.com stalls.

So it seems the mirror archives are the problem with the standard APT settings, but with the other settings I outlined in the bug report they all function ok.

I replaced archive.ubuntu.com with au.archive.ubuntu.com on my laptop and ran apt-get update without any problem. Is there possibly a network problem between your server and the mirrors? Are there any transparent proxies or alike in between?

Hmmm, now I repeat my tests and things progress smoothly using all the repositories that stalled previously.

Given this circumstance, I think that this bug should be closed.
