I don't know what I have done, but today I noticed that the old linux kernels listed in the 'auto removable' section in synaptic have gone (they are still installed, though). The only thing listed now is two linux-headers-3.5.0-22* files. I still have the headers for 23, 24, 25 and 26 and the corresponding linux images.
