On the apt-cache-ng server, I just removed all content in the directory /var/cache/apt-cacher-ng/uburep/dists and restarted apt-cache-ng. I no longer have the error. All cached files are in /var/cache/apt-cacher-ng/uburep/pool/ so removing the dists info, does not generate a lot of internet traffic...
(I 've had this issue since 8.04. I'm now running 10.0.4 and ran in to the same issue... I wonder...)
