I had some update in taskbar which clicking itt installed somethings updating, but too fast to read, and started working again and showing. Maybe like in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/muon/+bug/856384a

Indeed, "sudo update-apt-xapian-index" fixes the issue, but it shouldn't be necessary.

I saw there is a weekly cron job that runs this update, but it may take several days until it runs the first time.

Maybe there should be a job or service that runs on first boot after installation that tries to run this update command until it succeeds (an then disables the job/service itself)?
Or maybe the installation process should copy the xapian index that is present (I think) in the installation media to the installed system?
Or maybe Muon should run this command on first start if the xapian index doesn't exist? (Maybe the best option)

Also in 18.04.5 32-bit kubuntu

Ok, so theres this cpu hogging process update-apt-xapi Bug #1958041
It runs on every boot.
It should run only when opening then muon.
Heres other apps that use this allways on startup running process, but should run only when thouse apps are opened, if this is installed and cant use something not cpu using on every startup.

For me the same situation - searching was working first time, later was not until I did "sudo update-apt-xapian-index"

I have Kubuntu 23.04 64bit and Lenovo Yoga 300-11iby.

It is because the apt-xapian-index package dropped its dbus servive, which muon used to update that database.

Note: muon is now not actively maintained by KDE, so being dropped in debian/kubuntu.

affects: muon (Ubuntu) → apt-xapian-index (Ubuntu)
