Here's the result of the requested command:

alex@VPCCW1FFXL:~$ apt-cache policy apport

I think these crashes might have been related to a missing reboot after a kernel update.
Running "ubuntu-bug -w" no longer crashes but "apport-collect 1133543" still gives the error.
