Bug Description

Binary package hint: ant

ant is used for various purposes and as a runtime dependency of several packages, including Eucalyptus.

ant currently recommends "default-jdk | java-compiler | java-sdk". By default this makes installing software depending on ant also install a JDK.

This is especially an issue with server packages, where installing a JDK also pulls all sorts of X libraries. It also makes it impossible to have software depending on ant on the Ubuntu Server CD.

As part of the server-karmic-eucalyptus-fit-on-cd blueprint, I propose that default-jdk should be made a "Suggests:" rather than a "Recommends:".

This will *not* affect package builds, since build daemons do not install recommends anyway.
This should not really affect users since users of "ant" usually install a JDK anyway...

This bug was fixed in the package ant - 1.7.1-0ubuntu3

---------------
ant (1.7.1-0ubuntu3) karmic; urgency=low

  * Drop JDK recommendation to a Suggests to make it feasible to fit ant on
the server CD (thanks, Thierry Carrez; LP: #389470).
