Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Looking at the attachments in this bug report, I noticed that "WHAT CAN I DO TO STOP IT FROM GOING CRAZY OR REMOVING IT ALL TOGETHER" was flagged as a patch. A patch contains changes to an Ubuntu package that will resolve a bug, since this was not one I've unchecked the patch flag for it. In the future keep in mind the definition of a patch. You can learn more about what qualifies as a patch at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Patches. Thanks!

Error from log:

Stopping amavisd: (not running).
Starting amavisd: head: cannot open `/etc/mailname' for reading: No such file or directory
The value of variable $myhostname is "wes-MS-7502", but should have been
a fully qualified domain name; perhaps uname(3) did not provide such.
You must explicitly assign a FQDN of this host to variable $myhostname
in /etc/amavis/conf.d/05-node_id, or fix what uname(3) provides as a host's
  network name!
(failed).
invoke-rc.d: initscript amavis, action "restart" failed.
dpkg: error processing amavisd-new-postfix (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

It would appear that you do not have a full qualified domain name (FQDN)
for the Ubuntu system that you are trying to install amavisd-new on.

Please follow the advice in the error message in #11 to resolve this
issue.

If this fixes your problem please mark this bug as 'Invalid'

Changed in amavisd-new (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete
