I apologize if my details are fuzzy or slightly incorrect, but I was able to get Last.fm playing through amarok by removing amarok (sudo apt-get remove amarok), and removing the config files for both amarok (rm share/config/amarok*) and KWallet (rm share/config/kwalletrc).

I believe whatever I answered for KWallet the first time I installed amarok caused the problem preventing Last.fm from playing.

Just removing and re-installing amarok did not change the KWallet settings and I was left with the same failure. Maybe getting rid of the kwalletrc file and then restarting amarok would have been sufficient...
