Sorry, I found that the "resume playback option" got somehow checked off. When I checked it ON and tried the same, it was able to resume playback from the place I paused it before quitting amarok. Hence this bug is not reproducable in amarok v1.4.7 in Ubuntu 7.10. Closing this bug, but feel free to re-open it if you can confirm this bug, especially in v1.4.8 available in Hardy.
