Bug Description

Binary package hint: amarok

I play my music from an external HDD. When using my laptop running Ubuntu Gutsy, current with updates, whenever I close (exit) amarok, it unmounts all removable drives at the same time.

I am having this exact same problem. Whenever I close Amarok it unmounts all my disk drives and my cdroms (and i assume it would unmount my flash drives if i had them plugged in as well). I'm running 2.6.22.4-65.fc7 not ubuntu. My amarok version is 1.4.7 and i'm using KDE v. 3.5.7-21.fc7.

I should have mentioned - it is latest amarok, 1.4.7 I believe, and run under GNOME on Ubuntu Gutsy, current Kernel.

It seems this is a known problem. Reinstalling Amarok seems to work.

I have the same problem on Gutsy (Gnome).
I have an usb disk and when I have some mp3 from it in Amarok playlist then Amarok unmounts the drive on exit.
Also I've noticed that Amarok unmounts the drive on the start!
This is very annoying.

I think this is just caused by wrong usage of a mis-interpreted feature. Please ensure that Amarok doesn't handle the devices as media devices in Amarok's configuration menu.

I have this problem as well. For me, in Gutsy, when this happened I could restart Hal and the drives would show up again, then I could unmount them. There appeared to be no data loss when I did this. Now that I have upgraded to Hardy I get this message in dmesg when I try to restart Hal: hald-probe-volu[16639]: segfault at 00000000 eip 080497b3 esp bfdcca20 error 4

I have Amarok set to not handle my removable drives.

Here too, a few seconds after quiting amarok my external usb drives and cd drives are unmounted. This is anoying and could cause data loss.

Why is this marked as Incomplete?

On the other hand, I can confirm this bug. Amarok unmounts the drive almost every time I close it. I doubt there is any data loss, since the drive cannot be unmounted while in use unless you use sudo to start amarok.

If I play music from the USB drive with another player, the drive is not unmounted by amarok.

I think it is a bug in Amarok, though. Still very annoying!

I think I might have found a solution (not really a fix) for this problem. What you have to do is to add the USB drive to the Amarok devices and set it to "Do not handle". How to do this:

1) make sure your device is mounted
2) start amarok
3) Go to: Setting->Configure Amarok->Media devices
4) Click "Add a device"
5) Make sure the first options is "Do not handle"
6) Add a name and the mountpoint (e.g. /media/USB-HDD)
7) Click OK, and Apply, and Ok, whatever... at this point Amarok should not unmound your drive anymore

Nevermind my above post... it still unmounts after a few seconds... still hoping for a real fix.

Its is no real big deal, just go to places and computer and remount it,
takes seconds, this bug does not happen to everyone so I've heard, but
it has been around since at least feisty.

I've been having the same issue since Feisty.
Running Amarok 1.4.9.1 (Using KDE 3.5.10) On Ubuntu Hardy.

I've tried all the mentioned workarounds. The only thing that seems to work is adding the external drives to my fstab. Still, this is not a fix.

It would be nice to see some progress with this bug. It may not be critical but it's mighty annoying and it's been around for a long time.

This bug seems to be fixed for me, i am running a 64 bit version and
closing Amarok no longer unmounts for my current user any external devices.

I noticed the problem after installing the package mediamanager (to get moving to trash supported). I don't know exactly whether amarok unmounted the drive before.
