Bug Description

I use Gnome with some kde apps like amarok and k9copy.
When with those applications I use a file that is on one external usb hard drive, when I close the application, all my mounted usb drives are unmounted.

For exemple my mp3 collection is on one external usb hard drive. Amarok use this collection. When I close amarok, my usb drives are automatically unmounted.

With k9copy, when I use a .iso file that is on an external usb drive, when I close it, my drives are unmounted too. And when I use a .iso that is not on an externel usb drive, my drives are not automatically unmounted. So it happens when a KDE app access to an external usb drive : when it closes, it unmounts all the usb drives.

In syslog and deamon.log files, it's written exactly the same than when I unmount myself the drives : "hald : unmounted /dev/sbd1 from '/media/GIGA' on behalf of uid 1000"

I have a fresh install of Gutsy64 and it's up to date too.

I'm having the exact same problem in amarok, but I haven't tested out other KDE apps with my external hard drive yet.

Hey, the same problem here (on Gutsy 32 bits), but until I read your bug report I didn't notice why does it happen. Yeah, this bug really sucks.

Anyone could tell us anyway to fix this?

Same with me. When I close Amarok it unmounts my external harddisk where I keep my music. This happens since I made a fresh install of Ubuntu Gutsy.

Amarok unmount my external harddisk, and no way to remount it.

I confirm this bug also on my computer. I've always used Amarok with my music on a FAT32 usb drive, but on gutsy it unmounts the drive when I close it. Removing the drive from the Media Devices configuration didn't solve the problem.

PD: I have some problems with the amarok menus also, that are most surely unrelated, but I thought I'd mention them in case someone else here is having the same problems. (mainly, in the collection browser: Group By > First Level is always blank, so I can't -for example- browse my collection only by year).

I have the same problem in KUbuntu when I invoke some KDE programs through kdesu (e.g. adept or ksystemlog). In this case hal unmounts the drives on behalf of root.

Confirmed here also. Amarok unmounts external harddrive formatted FAT32 when amarok closes. Not very nice bug.

This bug is very annoying.

A temporary workaround is to have a file open from that hard drive. This will make the system deny Amarok request to unmount the drive.

For example: if I play music from the USB HDD with another player (or watch a movie) and I close Amarok, the drive is NOT unmounted.
This also suggests that there is no data loss on the drive when amarok is unmounting it, because no other app was using it anyway.

Hope this helps, and I hope the bug gets fixed!
