Bug Description

As discussed in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/708521, my two Lenovo Edge 13 notebooks appear to have different hardware to those that have been used for testing the driver. The audio device ID (17aa:21b3) is not listed in the file "sound/pci/hda/patch_conexant.c". Various suggested fixes for the internal microphone have not been successful.

Thanks for your bug report. If I am reading this report correctly, and the report you linked to, you said you tried various model quirks that didn't work. Did you try either model=asus or model=thinkpad, and did they work at all? If one or more of them worked, what did not work if anything?

Thanks.

Luke, in the end, I tried all of the model options that were listed in patch_conexant.c. However, I was not as systematic as I should have been and did not record in detail how each of them performed, partly because the results were inconsistent and variable. Some options initially appeared to give me a working microphone, but later failed after a reboot, or after I ran skype, etc. The symptom that I was seeing was the failure of the microphone to provide any response on the vu meter in the sound preferences dialog. I also noticed that alsamixer did not seem to provide appropriate controls for the microphone, but this varied depending on the chosen model quirk.

I guess to document this properly I would need try each model quirk in turn and put it through a standard set of tests. This could take some time because the two notebooks I am dealing with belong to family members who live elsewhere, so I don't have continuous access to them.

Thanks, Mal.

Some additional information:
When I set "model=thinkpad" and rebooted, the microphone seemed to work (level indicator responding in sound preferences), but stopped working as soon as I tried to make a test call in skype. With "model=asus", the microphone did not work at all. I'm happy to try anything else that anyone would like to suggest.
