Comment 3 for bug 703464

This fixed the sound.

in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf, added

options snd-hda-intel model=generic

I'm surprised the default /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf which came
with the installation didn't have this, given Intel HDA cards are
quite common now.

Didnt need to upgrade alsa as said in,
