Present upstream too.

Strangely this is related to bug#536699. Changing, in the BIOS, the graphics aperture size from 128MB to 256MB as suggested in that bug's comments solves both that issue and this.

Bartosz Kosiorek (gang65) wrote :

I haven't got such option to increase graphics aperture size in BIOS.

Do you have any other ideas?

ack! same problem here. Don't know if it's useful, but here's output from lspci -v for the device on my system:

80:01.0 Audio device: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT1708/A [Azalia HDAC] (VIA High Definition Audio Controller) (rev 10)
Subsystem: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. Device 7253
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 17
 Memory at fd00000000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
 Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel
 Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel

Since I have no sound on the system, this is a pretty big problem. Hope it gets some more attention so it can get fixed:-)

This bug also affect to me.
I have the same sound card VT1708/A [Azalia HDAC] (VIA High Definition Audio Controller) (rev 20).

This bug appear on Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10.

In random time (eg. after restart, after hibernation), the sound appears.

Here you have logs when sound is not working.

Bartosz Kosiorek (gang65) wrote :

here you have alsa info when sound works perfectly.

On latest Fedora sound works without problem.

Bartosz Kosiorek (gang65) wrote :

After compare this two outputs, I noticed that in working sound case, the "via", "drm" and "agpgart" modules is loaded.

Also the order of modules load is different.

Bug #662299 includes several problems with similar symptoms and the same workaround (booting with "pci=use_crs").

Booting with "pci=use_crs" may be a workaround for this bug as well. If it is, please attach a complete dmesg log here so we can make the kernel work even without the "pci=use_crs" option.

valkyr's report was on an ASUSTeK M2V-MX SE. That problem should be fixed by this commit, which appeared upstream in v3.1:

I can't tell what systems the other reporters have, so it's possible we need similar whitelist entries for them. If so, please attach the dmesg log here.
