[VIA ID 440] Recording doesn't work with VIA VT1818

I tried using audacity and skype but none works, I can only see 1 recording channel in alsamixer and it's not muted.

The problem was partially fixed when I followed the steps in Bug #474359, installed linux-backports -modules- alsa-lucid- generic and purged linux-sound-base, alsa-base, alsa-utils then reinstalled them.
front mic still doesn't work but things are much better, I see multiple playback and recording channels and the ordinary mic works.
