I installed the package and my sound card is now seen as a Intel IbexPeak HDMI and I am able to capture from Front Mic but it is very low. I am still unable to capture through my headphones.

I followed the advice of Daniel T. Chen:
$ cat /proc/asound/version
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24.
Compiled on Jul 13 2011 for kernel 2.6.32-32-generic (SMP).

It still doesn't work.
What else can I do?
Thanks.

I got a microphone, when trying with the 1.0.24 ALSA drivers it didn't work, then downgraded again to the 1.0.21 drivers that come with Ubuntu 10.04 and the microphone works.
So we cannot use the integrated microphone and ALSA 1.0.21 works better than 1.0.24, which is worrysome...
I have to return this laptop to his owner now so I cannot do more tests, this is a new Ubuntu user, lets see how it goes, having to connect a microphone is annoying because he uses Skype often... and I don't know how much time the battery will last because the screen brightness adjustment doesn't work (see #587081).
Lets hope one day vendors would test their systems with Linux and fix any problems before they hit the market...
Sorry for the spam, have a nice day!!!
