I just tried downloading and booting to Karmic Live CD and also the Lucid daily image. When booted to Karmic Live I exhibit exactly the same problem no microphone. When trying to boot to Lucid after getting a load of errors it boots to the login screen and will not go pass it no matter what so I was unable to do any testing in it.
