I've checked the BIOS and there is no way to disable the modem. I've also checked the alsamixer and turned up everything that has to do with audio input to 100% and still no luck. What confuses me is that in the alsamixer and sound preferences there is an option of 3 audio input sources (Microphone, Front Microphone, and In-line) this is a bit strange since my laptop does not have any build in microphones and only one 3.5mm plug for an external one.
I'm also not sure what exactly "model=auto" in the last line of alsa-base.conf does but when i type it in there the microphone works perfectly except than it creates a problem of audio output to be sent to both internal speakers and headphones at the same time, as I described in the beginning.
