I can confirm this bug on Intrepid.

 0 [I82801AAICH ]: ICH - Intel 82801AA-ICH

                      Internal PC-Speaker at port 0x61

I had to blacklist the module and edit some files to set the default device for sound to work. Also, having all sound on PC speaker is a little scary, at first I thought it was my HDD dying :D
