Three separate jacks, one labeled with a microphone and two labeled with headphone images.

It looks like dual headphone. I've never used them, the headsets I've attached are USB.

I don't understand the question. When I lower the volume mute is automatically applied to "Master", Headphone", "Speaker", and "PCM" (as shown in "Audio Mixer - HDA Intel MID (Alsa mixer)". This happens in one of three ways:
1) Pressing "quieter"(not "mute") past a certain point on the computer keyboard.
2) Dropping slider past a certain point in the XFCE panel Audio Mixer widget.
3) Dropping the Master slider past a certain point in Audio Mixer.

In none of these cases do I want mute, I want the sound back when I move the slider up or press "louder". I shouldn't have to run the full Audio Mixer and click four buttons and move a slider before sound appears.

I am only concerned with the sound sent to the internal speakers. However, I just checked and I do need to unmute all four places (including Headphone and Speakers) before sound comes out of the internal speakers.
