It could be... hard to tell from the description. During 14.04 testing I have had fully working sound and sound controls, no sound, and now sound is working, but mute doesn't actually mute sound. Volume up and down work. All sound control displays the proper notification on the screen, but mute does not actually mute the sound.

My mute button stopped working with 14.04, it worked in 13.10. The unity sound indicator for increase/decrease sound level also stopped working.

This happens from time to time since 12.04 (x201 and x230). Various FN buttons and others like mute of sound disappear. Other similar bugs exist. I will test a workaround and link up some other bugs.
