Bug Description

Sound has not worked since installing UBUNTU 12.04 while card and speakers worked fine under Win XP.
Have tried adjusting settings, speakers NOT muted, etc but no joy. Not sure what wrong.
Know I have Sound Blaster card. Also tried MoBoard jacks, still no joy.
I hear static from mouse scrolls, keystrokes, etc. as well as 'hum'/static through speakers. Sounds from songs, videos, etc. are preceptible but muffled even with volume high.

Appreciate support..
The issue is still that this system (Duel Core AMD Opteron 175 on MSI 7125 K8N Neo4 mobo) produces no sound in linux (UBUNTU 12.04 Kernel 3.11.0-18-generic) although sound fine on Winxp.

Did have soundblaster audigy sound card installed when reported this problem 2 days ago. Now, trying to resolve or at least make issue less complicated, removed sound card to try just the integrated, onboard sound (7.1 channel audio codec RealTek ALC850 Compliance with AC97 v2.3 Spec. Meet PC2001 audio performance requirement).

Still no sound (everything unmuted, speakers test fine).

Raymond I am having trouble with https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PulseAudio/Log
Maybe I don't understand the instructions...

"You have probably come here because you have a problem with PulseAudio, and someone asked you to provide a PulseAudio verbose log. Here's how to do that:

    Open a terminal, then enter these commands:

echo autospawn = no >> ~/.config/pulse/client.conf #use ~/.pulse/client.conf on Ubuntu <= 12.10
killall pulseaudio
LANG=C pulseaudio -vvvv --log-time=1 > ~/pulseverbose.log 2>&1

    Do what you need to reproduce the bug.

    Switch back to the terminal and press Ctrl-C to stop PulseAudio.
    Open your Launchpad bug and attach the file ~/pulseverbose.log (in your home directory) to that message.
    To return your system to a clean state again, edit ~/.pulse/client.conf with your favorite editor and remove the line "autospawn = no". If the file is now empty, you can just as well delete it. Then log out and log in again.
    Last but not least - thanks for helping out! "

Is that three seperate commands? i.e.
echo autospawn = no >> ~/.config/pulse/client.conf #use ~/.pulse/client.conf on Ubuntu <= 12.10

I tried:
echo autospawn = no >> ~/.config/pulse/client.conf #use ~/.pulse/client.conf on Ubuntu <= 12.10

and got:
kerry@kerry-MS-7125:~$ echo autospawn = no >> ~/.config/pulse/client.conf #use ~/.pulse/client.conf on Ubuntu <= 12.10
bash: /home/kerry/.config/pulse/client.conf: No such file or directory
tried:
kerry@kerry-MS-7125:~$ echo autospawn = no >> ~/.config/pulse/client.conf
bash: /home/kerry/.config/pulse/client.conf: No such file or directory

sorry... i am certainly doing something foolish but don't understand. very sorry.

Notice in pulse audio when in Configuration tab i set to (IEC958) then go back to Output Devices tab the only "port" available in dropdown menue is "Digital Output (S/PDIF)" whaereas I have just the cheaper variety of speakers what use what I think are analog ports (like 9mm jack).

Other settings in configuration are analog and in Output Device tab allow analog outputs.

Maybe I need to try and buy S/PDIF speakers? Don't know when can get money for that...

Removed Soundblaster Audigy (24 bit) which wasn't working anyway (with Linux) to maybe simplify as MoBo has integrated Realtek AC97 which is touted as caplable of 7.1 surround. Still, no luck.
.
While it has S/PDIF output jack, I don't have that kind of cable/speakers... just trying to use the small/standard (3.5mm) color coded jacks. Anyway... no output from those, analog outputs.

Sorry can't figure-out myself. Really have been researching on web for days 'til now wit's end. Thanks.

The left 3 audio jacks are for 2-channel mode for stereo speaker output: Line Out is a connector for Speakers or Headphones. Line In is used for external CD player, Tape player, or other audio devices. Mic is a connector for microphones. However, there is an advanced audio application provided by Realtek ALC850 to offer support for 7.1-channel audio operation and can turn rear audio connectors from 2-channel to 4-/5.1-/7.1 channel audio. Line In ( in 7.1CH / 6CH) Line Out MIC S/PDIF O

if you have 5 audio jacks at rear panel, only need a channel mode control which change from 5.1 to 7.1 by retaskking line in jack
