Bug Description

obvious checks in alsamixer, pavucontrol, System settings/Sound - capture input is turned on, unmuted, mic is ok on another pc. Yet no app receives input sound.
All applications are instead able to receive input sound, if I set as source the webcam mic. Sound output from analog stereo out is fine.

Same card, same problem. No sound from the analog input port even though the software "thinks" it is receiving data (i.e. ALSA is sending silence).

The card used to work for me on Linux 3.0.4, and it looks like I am not the only one experiencing this regression:

the previous driver have two capture subdevices

seem line in is the subdevice 0 and Mic is subdevice 1

you need to use latest alsa driver which provide a capture source control for selecting mic or line in

For anyone following, the referenced patch is not available in kernel 3.8. 3.11 does contain the patch.

However, after upgrading, analog capture still does not work. Instead, on switching capture channels, I see "capture write error (DMA or IRQ trouble?)" in dmesg and the capture application either exits or hangs.

With kernel 3.11 on Ubuntu 12.04:

you have to report to the author if dynamic adc switching does not work

i think the switching of capture source cannot be performed when you are recording

Right now I'd just settle for working analog line in capture. Any more ideas?
