Bug Description

Binary package hint: alacarte

Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty

Whilst rearranging the menu for a more logical organisation of "Sytem -> Preferences", I've noticed that it has caused duplicates of the rearranged items in the "Application -> Other" category.

As an observation, the whole editing process in Alacarte does feel kind of sluggish and desperately requires improving from a usability perspective.

I discovered this when I organised my menus into logical categories instead of the menus been monolithic.

To reproduce try the following;

Create a new menu called Multimedia in System > Preferences

Then copy over the following items from within Preferences into the new Multimedia menu;

Sound
Volume Control
Multimedia Systems Selector

Once these have taken effect the same items should then appear in the Applications > Other menu

This also impacts in the Open With context menu, by duplicating entries for apps that can be used to open file MIME types.

I'm seconding this bug,
Steps to reproduce:

Create a new menu item within the "Programming" menu called "Version Control"
Drag and drop some items within Programming onto the folder shown in the left pane.
There will now be 3 copies of the item:
1 in Version Control
2 in Programming

If the item was disabled before moving, the newly created copy will be enabled.

Notes:
-It works properly if you're moving an item from Programming to another Primary menu,
i.e. From Education to Science, or Programming to System Tools, etc.

-If you delete the copy within the original folder, the item in the subfolder will also get removed.

This bug makes it very difficult to organise the menus.
