This still happens on 20.04.
Update: Looks like this intended behaviour after reading https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FileIntegrityAIDE#AIDE_with_the_aide-common_package
To init aide, you have to use aideinit and configuration files listed. The instructions on the page still say auide --init.
