I have also been experiencing this. It started with 3.0.5.

There are a few sites that I visit regularly that cause Firefox to go to 100% CPU..... I have to force quit:

www.nytimes.com
www.wired.com

... Both those sites will cause the situation after a few clicks.

This is Ubuntu, 8.04, x86, happens with NO plug-ins or add-ons.

Its so crippling I have had to switch browsers until this is fixed.
