Another interesting point is that Ubuntu has a guest session which works great but interestingly the user from which the guest session is initiated returns with a locked screen which seems to be a security feature. But it is still possible for the guest to access most of the data in the home user directory because of this bug except of some ssh and gpg things.

I really think that it is better to just create a shared folder which is shown on the desktop and places instead of opening the home directory wide. This also wouldn't need installer interaction and should be easily understandable because Windows practices this at least since XP.
