@bojo: This is not a good solution, because sleep.d scripts should accepts some command line arguments - see /usr/share/doc/pm-utils/HOWTO.hooks .
A good solution would be to write a script that does the hdparm-thingy and respects the pm-utils semantics. I created one, it is attached.
Copy it to /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/95hdparm-apm , chmod +x and chown root:root it. For me it works flawlessly.
