Any estimate on when / if the partial fix will get pushed as an update
for gutsy? There are a lot of people out there with this who may not
even know about it, and the clock is ticking.

I could make a utility in python that would check for the issue, then
change settings if the problem is present, then apply the fix, check to
make sure it worked, apply the other setting if not, check to make sure
that worked. Either way, it would save the settings, and not try again
unless the HD has been moved to a new machine, and/or the HD has been
replaced.

I'm not so familiar with packaging, though I might be able to learn, if
I have time. I don't know if a python 'daemon' would be desirable,
anywho. But it would just take too much of my time to do that in C++...
