Bug Description

Hi all,
i have got a laptop with Ubuntu 8.10 AMD 64 on it. When i close the laptop screen down something must happen because when i open it it doesn't show anything. It comes up with a black command line with the underscore flashing. And i try to get back to the desktop but its impossible. But it doesn't happen with my partners. I have a Intel Pentium Dual-Core T-2330 1GB Ram Dual boot with Windows Vista, Toshiba Satellite L40-17U model if you need it.
thanks
xjoshdenx

The above logs should really be attached instead of pasted, just for future reference. Nevertheless I will attach these for you. Also you have provided enough information to start working on this problem, so I am setting it as Confirmed and letting the developers take it from here. Thank you for reporting this bug.

I'm having this bug as well on my Aspire One. Would it help for me to post the above info from my machine as well?

Found bug #295443 while hunting for more info on known problems with Suspend. I had had an SD card inserted during earlier attempts, so I retried with the SD card removed and Suspend worked just fine.

Doesn't really seem like a duplicate but it might be a related issue. Either way seems like I only see this problem when an SD card is still mounted.

@josh g & xjoshdenx,

Have you tested this in Ubuntu Karmic (9.10) - the release candidate is available for testing, or you could upgrade when the final release is made available.

If you could run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal) it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux-image-`uname -r` 304987

Also, please be sure to take a look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume . If you can provide any additional information outlined there it would be much appreciated.

I've been having unrelated hardware and/or 9.10 upgrade troubles but I just tested this out with a USB-based LiveCD boot. Suspend with SD card inserted seems to work fine, nothing crashed and the filesystem remained mounted. I tested this about half a dozen times on my Aspire One. The bug seems to be fixed in my case.
