Confirmed on Thinkpad T61, model 7658CTO.
Running "echo disable > /proc/acpi/ibm/bluetooth" appears to have exactly the same effect as toggling Fn+F5 until bluetooth HARDWARE is off (as opposed to the Ubuntu software talking to that hardware).
Still, toggling it with Fn+F5 is not persistent.
