Bug Description

I wrote the following scripts and I would like to have them included in Ubuntu.

a) Used to enable/disable the touchpad (with Fn+F9):

- /etc/acpi/events/asus-touchpad

b) Used to switch between LCD/CRT/LCD+CRT (with Fn+F8):

- /etc/acpi/asus-display-switch.sh
- /etc/acpi/events/asus-display-switch

c) Used to enable/disable the bluetooth support:

- /etc/init.d/asus-bluetooth

These scripts are known to work with Asus W5A notebooks, among other Asus models.

(From update of attachment 4916)
# /etc/acpi/events/asus-display-switch
# This is called when the user presses Fn+F8 and calls
# /etc/acpi/display-switch.sh for further processing.

event=hotkey ATKD 0000006[123]
action=/etc/acpi/asus-display-switch.sh '%e'

Interestingly, the bug #31063, created after this one, included the *same* fix for the touchpad issue...

BTW, there's no need to call it '/etc/acpi/events/asus-a6u-touchpad' we can drop the '-a6u' part from the name, as it should work with many (if not all) asus notebooks.

I would be interested in these functions too, #cause I'm using an Asus W5F.
Perhaps anybody could get it in for gutsy, especially the display switching function since there will be a lot of work done in the xserver config ( - hope they're not rumors). --> feature request?

Are these modifications still necessary in 9.04?

@Daniel: Isn't jaunty getting rid of acpid and moving over to hal?

From dapper through jaunty, the acpi-support package did include asus-a6u-touchpad with this behavior (with a different name because there's another asus-touchpad handler with a different acpi event). In karmic, it's been dropped because someone claimed it's now handled by the asus-laptop driver - unfortunately I don't remember who made this claim, and I don't have the hardware to confirm it. Can someone verify that their ASUS laptop generates the 6b acpi event (*not* the 6a event), and that their hotkey toggling still works in Ubuntu 9.10 beta?

I am using Jaunty on my Asus n71vn. The event for the touchpad is 0000006b and for the video switch it is 00000061, but they are not handled by the asus-laptop driver. Touchpad can't be disabled (Probably it's another device because of the multitouch capability), and the video switch button won't do it's work. Bluetooth on/off works with the slideswitch left to the cardreader, this should also disable wireless but it doesn't (The same with Fn+F2, should disable wireless but it seems that there is no clear signal from it, neither showkey nor xev, acpi_listen shows up a 0000007e/0000005f event every few seconds when pressed once).

This has been mostly fixed for the Asus n71vn with the acpi4asus "asus-laptop" module, which has been included in a newer version in lucid. Still, the buttons for touchpad and display have no assigned action, though they get recognised correctly.

Are you still having any problems? Has a newer version fixed your problems?
