Yes, we were actually proposing that during lunch today. However, the mechanism isn't there yet, so it isn't a good thing to remove the .dmrc mechanism first.

I honestly expect a complaint from a paying RHEL customer in the future like it happened with the gvfsd issue. The problem was absolutely analogous, GNOME developers not taking special precautions for networked environments which are the dominant form deployed by enterprise customers.

The University of Oslo is deploying RHEL 5.x and 6.x on a huge amount of desktop machines. I do not think that it will take very long until someone there sends in a complaint to RedHat.
