You're deliberately ignoring what the user wants to do? I presume there is some rationale behind this other than "Hey, let's just make it a royal pain in the butt for people to use anything but GNOME! After all, that's worked so well for Microsoft!" but to be honest, whatever that reason might be, it's not exactly obvious to the casual observer.
