I got a Fujitsu Siemens AMILO PI 1536.
With Edgy i didn't have a slow application performance, but by installing Feisty I encountered problems of this nature.

editing /etc/hosts in Feisty as described, helped me with the problem.
Just to open a Gnome-Terminal it was taking 10-15 sec, same for other applications (it was driving me crazy :P).
But now it only takes 1-2 sec.
