If you still have this problem with Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) it is better to file a new bug report and attach the information from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection. Although in both cases your touchpad do not work, the cause of your problem will likely be unrelated to the cause of the problem of Robert because you have different laptop brands and models.
