But now we are getting somewhere: if I _do_ specify the vga=792, it does not hang! Ie. I get a splash screen, though the logo itself is smaller than full screen and in the top left corner (don't know if that's unusual or not with the vga=792 setting).
So what is the default that is used, and why is it hanging our machines totally? I guess that's the question.
