Removing the "splash" option has always worked around the problem just

I've also just installed Kubuntu 8.04 Beta 4 alt amd 64--but the KDE3
version. I had the same problem again at install, but after I upgraded and
installed the nvidia-glx-new (version 169.12) drivers, the problem went
away. I didn't do anything else.
