is really untrue. I'm subscribed to the ubuntu-users list where most (if not all) of the "reportbug" bugs get posted. Nobody every responds to them, and any bug _I've_ reported via reportbug has never made it into the bug tracking system. That's as close to "thrown away" as makes no difference.
I'd also point out that the Ubuntu developers decided, in their wisdom, to remove Postfix as a part of the standard ubuntu desktop install and, since reportbug only "suggests" an MTA, that means that reportbug is no longer guaranteed to do _anything_. I don't understand how reportbug can not _depend_ on an MTA
