Yes, I ve just tried to play an .ogg file with the Ubuntu 64 Live DVD and the headphones work "out of the box".

I can also hear a "beep" (loud speakers and headphones work at the same time) just when the power adapter is plugged/unplugged and the volume of this sound is adjustable.

Can you compare the configuration given by Alsa Information Script with mine ?

I ve also found a script from this page : http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/
It didn't solved any problems yet but it could maybe give helpful information and additional settings.
