Bug Description

While trying to access floppy drive, the led shines for a short while, then nothing happens. Neither from Places-Floppy Drive, nor from Places-Computer-Floppy drive.

Manual mounting helped.

sudo mount -t msdos /dev/fd0u1440 /media/floppy

Resulted in the appearance of floppy icon in the computer. Access (copying, deleting) was possible only from command line and as a root. Umount was possible only for the root user.

Well, this is some sort of a circular reference, since it was me who reported this bug...
my launchpad nic is just "sergey"

The last comment on that thread mentions that in Alpha 3 of Natty it did not work...

Wops, sorry, yeah that was the bug I was referring to.

The problem is even with all those logs I can't see where the issue is, I can see the drive is recognised, but I can't see where it fails.

There's also this bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/util-linux/+bug/593140

What I'm trying to figure out is whether it's a linux kernel issue or gnome issue.

might be on the money

it may be an issue with udisks

It seems that you are right. I've found a similar issue from 10.04 times...

http://cmc.site11.com/?p=641

together with a workaround, which is to degrade udisks...

Would be great to have it fixed. Granted, not that many use floppies nowadays, but when you need it... you need  it indeed ;)

Best wishes from sunny Sweden! (only this time of the year, alas..)

Sergey
