I confirm this bug for Intel(R) Centrino Duo T2600 @ 2.16GHz.

It appears to manifest itself on both kernels (generic and 386).

Stopping the network (/etc/init.d/network) returns system performance back to normal but when the system is reconnected one needs to start it up again.
