Please be specific. What type of laptop do you have? Have you looked for your laptop at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam

Some people have had problems with their laptops being slow if they use the generic kernel. To see what your kernel is open a terminal and type

uname -a

Please tell me what kernel you are using and if you have a dual processor.
