I noticed the following:

$ sudo vmware-config-server-console.pl
[sudo] password for gerardo:
Configuring fallback GTK+ 2.4 libraries.

The configuration of VMware Server Console completed successfully.

but as you can see in the attached screenshot, GTK+ 2.0 was something I updated (and after I saw the problem)

Could it be linked ?
