Crash persist only on local files updates with the ARRL TLE format.

Working fine with a network update on a more fast connection (1.5Mbps so much fast than my 33kbps)

Still working arround to find cause/solution.

Hi,

What do you mean with "ARRL TLE format", is that the verbose format?
Gpredict requires the NASA 2-line format as distributed by Celestrak, see e.g. http://celestrak.com/NORAD/elements/amateur.txt

Last night I updated my ubuntu over the Internet thanks to a friend, the crash persist, with the arrl updated (TLE via email as the ARRL dx bulleting, etc..)

I have downloaded the file http://celestrak.com/NORAD/elements/amateur.txt and try to update locally but gpredict crash anyway.

the network update is working fine.

The celestrak file has the same format than the ARRL TLE.

Has anyone reproduced the crash or is only me?

Hi Pavel,

There have been some patches applied to the TLE updater in Gpredict since the 1.1 release and some of them were indeed related to crashes when updating from local files. It could be one of those you encounter.

I believe this problem to be fixed in the upstream code base but it is not available in any official release yet. When I make a new release it will be available in my PPA until the official Ubuntu package gets updated.

If you have a slow Internet connection, you can speed up the network update process by discarding the satellites you do not need. You can edit which files to download at Edit -> Preferences -> TLE Update -> Files to fetch.

Hello again...

In the past days i have been playing around with gpredict about this crash (gpredict 1.1-5ubuntu1) and i have tested and proved the following...

1- When I update from local files with only one file some times it work and some it crashes..
2- Some times with a few files it works and some times it not...

With all the files provided in the default url as local files it definitely crashes...

So It may be some related to the number of files or the size of the "buffer" for the actualization, maybe with the number of files, etc.

Just thinking, I hope this info will have some use for fixing this issue.

Yes, but but not an option for me at this moment.

I only have a phone line with 33 kbps hi!
