Bug Description

Following most recent kernel update (downloaded & installed April 12, 2010), system refused to boot. Moved disk to a new system where it booted and received this error. I suspected a hardware issue except older Ubuntu instances, a Red Hat instance, and Windows XP will all boot on the "bad" system.

I should note that the system to which I moved the disk is physically identical to the other... down to sequential serial numbers.

I can confirm that I can reproduce this at will. The problem is with a battery that used to be reported as "low capacity, possibly broken". If the battery is in the laptop, Ubuntu will not boot. If the battery is removed, and Ubuntu booted, then the battery is installed, the crash reported occurs. If the battery is in the system, Ubuntu will not shut down properly. I'm going to tag this as ACPI-related.
