I get the same error message on boot. For a while I'd avoid it by using a particular kernel, (2.6.32-16 I *think*) but since updating today all installed kernels do it (31-20, 32-16, 32-21).
I get the error message, hit any key to get to the 'Xubuntu' screen with 'keys:' under it, then ctrl-alt-f* to get to a tty and startx. It appears to work, but I don't know why.
