Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

Distro
Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala 64-bit

Issue
A number of applications seem to freeze when I attempt to exit them. When the app is windowed and I try to exit, the desktop environment appears to function normally. However, the application fails to close and must be either forced to close using the 'forced close' panel app, or killed using the kill process command under system monitor. Also the apps that I do get a lock from seem to be listed on the futex_wait_queue_me channel in system monitor. The following is a list of the apps I get the lock from:

Armagetron Advanced
FooBillard
Open Arena
Nexuiz
Sauerbraten
Scorched 3D

All were installed Using the Add/Remove Applications section. This section was not available in Karmic by default. I had to reinstall it. Unlike the rest Armagetron Advanced actually closes visually but a quick check of the System Monitor shows it too is futex_wait_queue_me locked. Though I can start a new instance of the program while the first instance is locked, trying to exit the second instance simply adds a second futex_wait_queue_me lock to the system monitor. Because Ive only noticed this issue with graphically enhanced games I thought it might have to do with a video adapter problem.

Does your machine have a TV card or an Audigy soundcard? My problem seems to
have been resolved after a full reinstall of the operating system. Still not
sure what caused the issue but I have a gut feeling that it may have
something to do with either my soundcard or the completely unnecessary
driver build I went thruogh for my WinTV hvr 1600 card. Little did I realize
that the operating system has out-of-the-box support for it.

I have the same problem in OpenSUSE 11.2 with some games such as America's Army. After exit from this game, the process armyops-bin still resides in memory with "futex_wait_queue_me" tag, and there is no sound in other applications until the process terminated manually.

When run under root, the game exits successfully.

This problem happens to me when running multiple tabs (10) in Chrome all running the same web page which uses Javascript to access the Google geocoding api. The page doesn't use Flash or sound.

After a number of hours Chrome becomes unresponsive and when I close Chrome I can hear heavy disk activity that doesn't stop until I terminate the chrome process in System Monitor, which usually takes two attempts before the process is actually killed.

This leads me to wonder whether this may be caused by Javascript memory leaks...

When this problem occurs my memory consumption is over 50% of available memory (I only have 1 Gig) and processor loads hovers around 20% (single 64-bit AMD) with no other user programs running other than Chrome and System Monitor.

In that state, could you do:
echo t >/proc/sysrq-trigger

and attach the trace of the game process? It might perfectly be a pulseaudio or arts (or whatever sound daemon) problem where futex is never woken. Could you also upload alsa-info.sh findings?

Can you please clarify where should I find the trace and how should I start the game?

Start it normally and when it freezes just do "echo t >/proc/sysrq-trigger". Then run dmesg and find the process of the game and attach its trace.

Also, under root, run alsa-info.sh and upload the results (it will ask you to do so).

Hello Customer

Status accessories and attributes are very important for successful and popular people. Now you don't have to spend ridiculous money to impress partners with expensive watch. Purchase watches of high quality that look identical to the ones you will find at the jewelry store.
The best choice of the goods that will serve you for long time and will always be your favorite things.

I got my watch couple days ago. I did like to thank to you first of all. The watch is fantastic and by the way thanks for the pen. It’s beautiful. I was very skeptical about buying things from the internet at the beginning but you changed my opinion. Now I know there are some serious business owners on the internet such as you. Great, reliable and on time service!
A thousand thanks
