Thanks for your bug report. The Xorg.0.log and glxinfo show that DRI is enabled. However compiz might ask for special capabilities that are not met. Did compiz ever work on this card?

Please run "CM_DRY=yes compiz" and paste the output here.

So the result is :

laurent@chose:~$ CM_DRY=yes compiz
Checking for Xgl: not present.
xset q doesn't reveal the location of the log file. Using fallback /var/log/Xorg.0.log
No whitelisted driver found
Dry run failed: Problems detected with 3D support.

It's strange because I found some reference of people able to use 3D w/ this card but after using Matrox own driver (I don't have the reference now, but I found them w/ google), but forcing in 16b mode what I did.

Unfortunately, I failled to install those driver :

- install.sh script doesn't work under Karmic
- after upgrading manually /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/mga_drv.so, X won't start at al.

Bye

Laurent

compiz on mga is not officially supported (not in the whitelist). Try this to force it anyway:
 SKIP_CHECKS=yes compiz --replace

Well, unfortunately, it doesn't work :
- The windows manager gone (no windows borders and gadgets anymore).
- the shell only display
usr/bin/compiz.real (core) - Warn: No GLXFBConfig for depth 32
/usr/bin/compiz.real (core) - Info: Couldn't bind redirected window 0x1a00046 to texture
Bye

So I guess compiz just can not work on this card. If you find a reference to something proving the opposite, please tell.

Another issue related to card : it's a dual head but nothing is displayed on the 2nd monitor.

The "Display" preference detects only one screen which is display as "Unknown". And when I click on "Detect display" nothing happen.

Do I have to open a new bug report ?

Yes, please file a new bug for that, using "ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg-video-mga" and attach the output from "xrandr --verbose" there.

Same problem here. Any chance we're finally going to see Compiz effects working on our video cards too for the next release? Please?
