i just got new Dell Inspiron with Ubuntu.
There is the same problem: any video playback in fullscreen crashes the system. i removed the totem and installed vlc- the same story. after that i changed display resolution from native 1378*768 to 1024*768 and player was working in fullscreen...
looks like something not related to player.
